Colwyn Bay THI

Community Christmas Window Competition

January 10, 2014

Colwyn Bay Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) joined forces with Colwyn Bay Town Team to encourage local schools, nurseries and community to help brighten up the town.

The idea was the brain wave of Judi Greenwood, project manager of THI who felt that the empty shop windows needed brightening up for Christmas.

Judi said: Colwyn Bay, just like any other town, has a number of unoccupied retail outlets. With the rest of the shops making such an effort with their Christmas windows we felt the empty shops needed brightening up too. So we approached numerous schools and community groups to come up with ideas of how we could fill those empty windows. The response we had was totally fantastic. We managed to fill nine shop windows with everything from a nativity scene made by children of St Josephs School to an art display by local artists. It really was brilliant how everyone pulled together.”

Photos were then taken of all the windows and THI created a Facebook Competition where people were asked to vote for their favourite window. The winners were Springfield Nursery who filled their window with painted hand-prints made into Christmas related images.
